Our waiting list
We manage around 13,000 council properties. When a property becomes available, it is offered to people on our waiting list.
Over 6,000 people are on the list, including direct applicants, tenants requesting transfers, and homeless people in temporary accommodation.
How properties are allocated
Properties are allocated based on housing need. When tenants are selected for houses, priority is given to people who:
- are homeless or are threatened with homelessness and who have unmet housing needs
- are living under unsatisfactory housing conditions and who have unmet housing needs
- are tenants of houses which are held by a social landlord, which the social landlord selecting its tenants considers to be under occupied
Our allocation policy explains how properties are allocated.
Areas of choice
Settlements are grouped into areas that are close to major towns and aligned with secondary school catchment zones to support transport connections.
You can choose the areas you want to apply for. You can select as many as you wish.

In some areas, properties rarely become available, for example in Westhill and Stonehaven. Larger family homes are especially limited.
