Applying for a school place

If you want to apply for a place in school, the application process depends on the year group you are applying for.

Before you apply, find your catchment area. We recommend you apply to one of your catchment schools in the first instance.

Apply for a place in P1 starting in August

Find out more about how to register for primary one. This application is for new admissions to P1 only.

Apply for a place in P1 to P7 after start of session

If your child needs to start primary school (P1 to P7) after the session has begun, for example because you have moved, they are entitled to attend the school allocated to your catchment area. 

If you are applying for a place:

• During the holidays - you can apply online and then visit your new catchment school on the first day of term to complete enrolment; please bring your child’s birth certificate and proof of address
• During term time - you can contact the school directly to arrange enrolment, or you can apply online

Apply for a place after start of school session

Parents of primary 7 pupils don't need to do anything if you want your child to attend the secondary school in their catchment area. Your child will be automatically enrolled.

School outside your catchment

If you would like your child to attend a school in another zone, you can apply for a school place outside your catchment.
