Merger of Foveran School and Tipperty School

The council is proposing that Foveran School and Tipperty School should merge and operate as a single school from August 2025. Both buildings would remain and operate as one school with a new identity, delivering P1 to P7 education.  

The consultation will run from 14th October 2024 until 13th December 2024, and any written comments on the proposal must be received by the council within this period for them to be taken into account. An online survey about the Foveran and Tipperty School merger will be available as part of the consultation.

A public meeting to discuss the proposal will be held on 5th December 2024, at 6.30pm in Foveran Village Hall, Blairythan Terrace, Foveran, AB41 6AX.

Closure of Clatt School

The council is proposing to discontinue education at Clatt School, which is currently mothballed, and re-assign the catchment area to either Kennethmont School or Rhynie School.

The statutory consultation will run from 4th September until 8th November 2024, and any written comments on the proposals must be received by the council within this time in order for them to be taken into account. An online survey about the closure of Clatt School is available as part of the consultation.

A public meeting to discuss the proposal will be held at Clatt Village Hall on 1st October 2024, at 6.30pm.

Closure of Fisherford School

On 26 September 2024 Aberdeenshire Council made the decision to permanently close Fisherford School and re-assign its catchment area to Rayne North School. 

The decision needs to be approved by Scottish Ministers before the council can begin implementation. Members of the public could make representations to Scottish Ministers, requesting that the decision is reviewed, by 16th October 2024.

The statutory consultation run from 5th February until 29th March 2024. This covered the required minimum of 30 days term time consultation.

A public meeting to discuss the proposal was held at Turriff Primary School on 6th March 2024, and an online survey was available as part of the consultation.

Following the statutory consultation period, officers submitted the proposal document, survey results, written and oral representations, and other relevant documentation to Education Scotland for their consideration. Education Scotland will produce a report addressing educational aspects of the proposal. 

Officers reviewed the proposal in the context of the Education Scotland report, survey results, oral and written representations and produced a final report on the consultation.

The consultation report was presented at Formartine Area Committee on 11th June 2024. Education and Children’s Services Committee then considered the report on 29th August 2024 and the final decision on the proposal was be made by Full Council on 26th September 2024.

Secondary catchment anomaly rezoning at Lumphanan

The council proposed to rezone the Aboyne Academy catchment to include an area anomaly within the Lumphanan School catchment area currently zoned to Alford Academy.

The consultation ran from 5th September 2023 until 3rd November 2023. A public meeting was held on 14th September 2023 in Lumphanan School. An online survey and pupil consultation was also part of the consultation.

Following the statutory consultation period, all documentation on the consultation was sent to Education Scotland for consideration and Education Scotland produced a report addressing the educational aspects on the proposal. Officers reviewed the Education Scotland Report, survey results, oral and written representations and produced a consultation report which was presented to the Marr Area Committee on 12th March 2024, then to the Education and Children’s Services Committee for the final decision.

On 21st March 2024 Education and Children’s Services Committee approved the rezoning of Aboyne Academy catchment to include an area anomaly within the Lumphanan School catchment area currently zoned to Alford Academy.

These changes will take place from August 2024 and from that point the whole of the Lumphanan School catchment area will be zoned to Aboyne Academy.
