The council decided to permanently close a school, and merge two others. To make a representation to Scottish ministers, view closure of Clatt School and merger of Foveran and Tipperty Schools.
Merger of Foveran School and Tipperty School
On 24th April 2025 the council made the decision to merge Foveran School and Tipperty School.
This decision needs to be approved by Scottish Ministers before the council can begin implementation. Members of the public can make representations to Scottish Ministers requesting that the decision be reviewed.
If you would like to request that the Scottish Ministers review the decision, you can either email schoolclosure@gov.scot or write to The Scottish Government, School Infrastructure Unit, 2A (South), Victoria Quay, Edinburgh, EH6 6QQ.
Any representations must be made to Scottish Ministers by 15th May 2025.

The consultation ran from 14th October 2024 until 13th December 2024, and a public meeting was held on 5th December 2024. Following the statutory consultation period, officers submitted the proposal document, survey results, written and oral representations, and other relevant documentation to Education Scotland for their consideration. Education Scotland produced a report addressing the educational aspects of the proposal.
Officers reviewed the proposal in the context of the education Scotland Report, survey results, oral written representations and produced a final report on the consultation.
The consultation report will be presented at Formartine Area Committee on 4th March 2025, the Education and Children’s Services Committee on 20th March 2025, and the final decision on the proposal will be made by Full Council on 24th April 2025.
Closure of Clatt School
On 24th April 2025 the council made the decision to permanently close Clatt School and re-assign its catchment area to Rhynie School.

Following the statutory consultation period, officers submitted the proposal document, survey results, written and oral representations, and other relevant documentation to Education Scotland for their consideration. Education Scotland produced a report addressing the educational aspects of the proposal.
Officers reviewed the proposal in the context of the Education Scotland report, survey results, oral and written representations and produced a final report on the consultation.
The consultation report will be presented at Marr Area Committee on 18th February 2025, the Education and Children's Services Committee on 20th March 2025 and the final decision on the proposal will be made by Full Council on 24th April 2025.
Closure of Fisherford School
On 26th September 2024 the council made the decision to permanently close Fisherford School and re-assign its catchment area to Rayne North School. On 20th November 2024 Scottish Ministers upheld the council’s decision to close Fisherford School and realign its catchment area to Rayne North School.
The council proposed to discontinue education at Fisherford School and re-assign its catchment area to either Auchterless School or Rayne North School.
The statutory consultation ran from 5th February until 29th March 2024. This covered the required minimum of 30 days term time consultation.
A public meeting to discuss the proposal was held at Turriff Primary School on 6th March 2024 and an online survey was available as part of the consultation.
Following the statutory consultation period, officers submitted the proposal document, survey results, written and oral representations, and other relevant documentation to Education Scotland for their consideration. Education Scotland will produce a report addressing educational aspects of the proposal.

Closure of Easterfield School
On 26th September 2024 the council made the decision to permanently close Easterfield School and re-assign its catchment area to Auchterless School. On 20th November 2024 Scottish Ministers upheld the council’s decision to close Easterfield School and realign its catchment area to Auchterless School.
The council proposed to discontinue education at Easterfield School and re-assign its catchment area to either Auchterless School or Turriff Primary School.
The statutory consultation ran from 5th February until 29th March 2024. This covered the required minimum of 30 days term time consultation.
A public meeting to discuss the proposal was held at Turriff Primary School on 5th March 2024 and an online survey was available as part of the consultation.
