Closure of Tullynessle School
The council is proposing to discontinue education at Tullynessle School, which is currently mothballed, and re-assign its catchment area to either Alford Primary School or Keig School.
The consultation will run from 1st September until 31 October 2025 and any written comments on the proposals must be received by the council within this time in order for them to be taken into account. An online survey about the closure of Tullynessle School is available as part of the consultation.
A public meeting to discuss the proposal will be held at Tullynessle and Forbes Hall on 29th September 2025 at 6pm.

Merger of Foveran School and Tipperty School
On 24th April 2025 the council made the decision to merge Foveran School and Tipperty School. On 19th June 2025 Scottish Ministers upheld the council's decision to merge Foveran School and Tipperty School.
The consultation ran from 14th October 2024 until 13th December 2024. This covered the required minimum of 30 days term time consultation. A public meeting was held on 5th December 2024 and an online survey was available as part of the consultation.
Following the statutory consultation period, officers reviewed the proposal in the context of the education Scotland Report, survey results, oral written representations and produced a final report on the consultation.
The consultation report was presented at Formartine Area Committee on 4th March 2025, the Education and Children’s Services Committee on 20th March 2025, and the final decision on the proposal was made by Full Council on 24th April 2025.

Closure of Clatt School
On 24th April 2025 the council made the decision to permanently close Clatt School and re-assign its catchment area to Rhynie School. On 19th June 2025 Scottish Ministers upheld the council's decision to close Clatt School and re-assign its catchment area to Rhynie School.
The council proposed to discontinue education at Clatt School and re-assign its catchment area to either Kennethmont School or Rhynie School.
The statutory consultation ran from 4th September until 8th November 2024. This covered the required minimum of 30 days term time consultation.
A public meeting to discuss the proposal was held at Clatt Village Hall School on 1st October 2024 and an online survey was available as part of the consultation.

The consultation report was presented at Marr Area Committee on 18th February 2025, the Education and Children's Services Committee on 20th March 2025 and the final decision on the proposal was made by Full Council on 24th April 2025.
