Tyres disposal

Find out how to dispose of tyres through a garage or, if you are a householder, at one of the council's waste transfer stations.

We don't accepted tyres at recycling centres as we try to make space for more recyclable materials instead, so that householders can recycle more.

Dispose through a garage

When you need new tyres on your car, ask the garage where you have them fitted to dispose of your old tyres for you. They will normally do this for a small charge. If you change your vehicle tyres at home, the company you buy your tyres from may be able to dispose of your tyres for a small charge.  Always check first.

Dispose at a council site

If you are a householder and you are unable to dispose of your tyres through a garage, we offer a tyre waste disposal service.

What is accepted

We won't accept:

  • Bicycle tyres - you can put them into the non-recyclable waste skip at our recycling centres
  • Truck tyres
  • Wheel rims - you can put them  in the scrap metal container at our recycling centres

We will accept:

  • Car tyres
  • Motorbike tyres van tyres
  • Domestic 4x4s tyres

We will accept 4 tyres per household per financial year from 1st April to 31st March. Should there be a demand for additional tyres over and above the 4 from households with more than one vehicle, this will be reviewed as necessary.

Costs

This is a chargeable service and customers are required to pay £3.50 per tyre at the time of the deposit through chip and pin only.
